AVIcode named Maryland best new Incubator Company of the Year

Software Company is Latest Success Enabled by UMBC's Technology Incubator

AVIcode, Inc., a privately held software development company, today announced that it has been named as the 2005 Best New Incubator Company of the Year in the fifth annual Maryland Incubator Company of the Year Awards. The awards recognize the achievements of current and graduate companies within Maryland's technology incubators.

This year, AVIcode was selected in the "Best New Incubator" category, which recognizes companies that have entered a Maryland incubator since January of the previous year. AVIcode was selected from among companies located at 16 Maryland incubator sites statewide, based on a number of factors including:

• Success in achieving its objectives; in its technology or product development
• Growth in revenue or earnings
• Number of customers and significant customers
• Technology transfer
• Attraction of outside investors
• Impact on the region

With its headquarters at the techcenter@UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), AVIcode develops innovative software solutions to detect and report faults and performance bottlenecks in interconnected software systems. The company was formerly based in Hartford, Connecticut.

AVIcode's application fault management software protects software investments by simplifying application maintenance and troubleshooting, dramatically reducing defect resolution time. AVIcode's flagship product, Intercept Studio®, detects crashes and performance degradations of production applications running on the Microsoft .NET Framework, and has been publicly lauded by the Gartner Group analyst firm and the Microsoft Corporation, among others.

Last month, AVIcode and Microsoft announced that the Operations Edition of Intercept Studio®, AVIcode's industry-leading .NET application monitoring software for the Microsoft® .NET Framework, will be distributed with Microsoft Operations Manager® 2005 (MOM 2005). Intercept Studio Operations Edition for MOM 2005 will be distributed as the Microsoft .NET Management Pack from the MSDN® web site and from the MOM 2005 web site beginning July 2005. With its availability, MOM 2005 will become the complete platform for managing .NET Framework applications, allowing customers to establish enterprise standards for monitoring the health of ASP.NET, Web Services and .NET remoting applications. Founded in 1989, UMBC's technology incubator was expanded in 1996 when UMBC purchased the 30-acre five-building Lockheed Martin Research Lab facility site and renamed it techcenter@UMBC. The Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO), with the help of $5 million in state funding, acquired the building and converted it from a single-use to multi-use facility.
