AVIcode Continues Push to Make Dynamic Systems
Initiative a Reality
Design for Operations Starter Kit and .NET
Management Pack Improve Application Health Monitoring
and Fault Resolution
AVIcode, the leading provider of application
monitoring solutions for Microsoft .NET, recently
announced an agreement with Microsoft Corp. to develop a
Design for Operations Starter Kit that works with
AVIcode's .NET Management Pack to provide a bridge
between Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (MOM) and
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System due out later
this year.
"Together with AVIcode's .NET Management Pack, the
Design for Operations Starter Kit provides a link
between Operations and Development that helps
organizations to more effectively monitor application
health and improve application reliability and
availability," said Felicity McGourty, director of
Marketing for the Windows & Enterprise Management
Division at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft Operations
Manager and Microsoft Visual Studio are two key
components of the Dynamic Systems Initiative,
Microsoft's industry-wide effort for reducing cost and
complexity associated with managing IT infrastructures.
We are very pleased to be working closely with AVIcode
for providing the integration between MOM and VSTS."
The Starter Kit, due out in 4Q05, will be made
available by Microsoft, at no charge, to all developers
and development teams that utilize Visual Studio 2005.
Specifically, the Starter Kit will integrate Visual
Studio 2005 Team System work items and MOM alerts. In
other words, a monitored application exception or fault
in MOM will automatically generate a Visual Studio 2005
Team System work item and, when that work item is
resolved in Visual Studio 2005 Team System, the MOM
alert will be automatically cleared.
The Starter Kit comprises source code that furthers
the DSI by offering the first product to facilitate
communication between MOM 2005 and Visual Studio 2005
Team System, uniting the traditional operations and
development silos. A main feature of the Design for
Operations Starter Kit is the ability to integrate work
items of Visual Studio 2005 Team System with MOM 2005
alerts. The Starter Kit will automatically generate a
work item in Visual Studio 2005 Team System based on any
monitored application exception or fault reported by MOM
2005. When that work item is resolved in Visual Studio
2005 Team System, the alert status will be dynamically
updated in the MOM 2005 console.
When used in conjunction with the .NET Management
Pack, this ability is extended to include monitored
alerts in any custom .NET application. In this manner,
both operations and development have insight into the
behavior and health of .NET applications in production,
via MOM 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 Team System
respectively. In addition, the integration of the .NET
Management Pack and Visual Studio 2005 Team System
enables both sets of users to quickly identify, isolate,
and resolve application issues.
The .NET Management Pack enables users of MOM 2005 to
monitor any .NET application for exceptions and
performance degradations. It provides a consolidated
view of all applications, featuring health status
indicators within the MOM 2005 console. The management
pack also provides quick identification of faulty
application components, real-time alerts, and all the
diagnostic data necessary for efficient troubleshooting
of issues.
"AVIcode is pleased to continue developing and
strengthening our relationship with Microsoft," said
Mike Curreri, CEO of AVIcode. "We share a common vision
and are focused on continuing to develop solutions that
enable operations and development teams to seamlessly
work together to achieve true application life-cycle
management."
Both the Design for Operations Starter Kit and the
.NET Management Pack are available as free downloads
from Microsoft and AVIcode. For users of Visual Studio
2005 Team System without MOM 2005, the Starter Kit comes
with access to AVIcode's application monitoring
solution, Intercept Studio. More information on all
