Expanded Monitored Resource Support
In addition to SQL calls, Intercept Studio now
monitors calls to IBM DB2 data servers.
Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is also a
supported resource. Resource calls across application
tiers, including WCF, can be monitored and viewed as
chained events.
COM+ managed code support has been improved to allow
users to specify which components to monitor.
Application Topology View
Intercept Studio 4.1 can provide an expanded view of
an application across servers. A complete architecture
topology is available that displays the dependency
between components of a distributed application.
Organizations with inherited applications or a Service
Oriented Architecture (SOA) now have greater insight and
faster understanding of how the components of their
application interact.
User-Friendly UI Features
The Event Detail view now provides convenient
hyperlinks to Computer Detail and Application Detail
views. By enabling the Event Detail view to remain open,
users are able to more easily navigate and access
critical error details.
Within the Event Detail view, Intercept Studio 4.1
offers a direct hyperlink to MSDN that will
automatically search the MSDN library for the specific
method name and parameters of the event. This yields
more relevant search results than could be obtained
manually.
The Computer View now provides a graphical
representation of key performance metrics. This
graphical view provides an easily accessed and read
dashboard.
Installation/Configuration Features
During installation, the server host name for SE
Viewer will be automatically discovered.
Database connectivity can now be managed through a new
graphical user interface. Database connections are now
more easily configured during the install or when
changing databases.
Reporting Enhancements
Intercept Studio now maintains a separate database for
customized reporting which improves reporting
performance.

Concurrent monitoring
Intercept Studio simultaneously monitors applications
for both performance and code problems, providing
complete application monitoring in real-time. When an
issue is detected, Intercept Studio automatically
categorizes it into a logical aspect group and generates
an alert with a complete root cause diagnosis, helping
to facilitate rapid error resolution and improve
application manageability across the development and IT
lifecycle.
Disconnected monitoring
Intercept Studio extends its powerful monitoring and
diagnosis capabilities to non-networked computers. With
scheduled and manual transmission of events,
organizations are now able to support and troubleshoot
remote applications in disconnected environments. In
additions, ISVs can now embed and configure monitoring
within applications to improve their support of
customers.
Collect and correlate key performance counters
Intercept Studio collects key system and framework
performance counters and automatically correlates that
data with application events, providing a better
understanding of how application problems and system
performance relate. With insight into system and process
level information, Intercept Studio enables advanced
root cause diagnostics. Performance counter trends may
also be reported on.
Computer-centric and Application-centric views
Intercept Studios web console delivers views for
visualizing the overall configuration and load
statistics for individual computers and applications. IT
and development teams can easily view process, system,
and application health. In addition, Intercept Studio
consolidates and summarizes application activity,
performance counters, and transaction volumes to provide
a business view of the application.
On-the-fly configuration
Performance thresholds within Intercept Studio can be
automatically applied in response to changing demands
and updated monitoring policies. When re-configuring
performance thresholds, there is no need to schedule
process restarts.
Extensible reporting
Intercept Studio includes actionable reports to aid in
the measurement of activity and identification of
application problems. New reports highlight areas of an
application that are improving or slowing in
performance, allowing pro-active measurement and
management. Trending reports provide an overview of
application volume and health indicators over time,
delivering a better understanding of overall application
and system performance. Reports are also available in
Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, allowing users to
customize and extend their application business
reporting.
